This day is celebrated on 26th November every year to maintain positive balance and take positive steps in the context of making people aware. The day is organized by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). For the last nearly three decades, it is felt that the biggest problem at present is related to environment.

It is worth noting in this context that around ten global environmental treaties and around hundred regional and bilateral talks and agreements have been concluded. All these conferences were held in Rio de Janeiro in the light of the 1992 United Nations Environment and Development Program. The conference in Rio de Janeiro was a very important point in the context of international environmental conventions and policies.

There are two works that have been widely considered and implemented on a global scale. First of all, is development of the economy and second is the protection of the environment. A Commission on Sustainable Development (Commission on Sustainable Development) was established under the United Nations system.

Agreement on World Environment Protection Day

Due to human activities, many natural resources have been destroyed on earth. Keeping this context in mind, many governments and countries have concluded many agreements regarding their protection and proper exploitation. Such agreements have started in the countries of Europe, America, and Africa since the 1910s. Many similar agreements like the Kyoto Protocol, the Montreal Protocol, and Rio Convention fall under the category of multinational agreements. At present, new standards are being adopted in the context of environmental issues in European countries like Germany, such as ecological tax and many executive steps to protect the environment and the standards related to reducing the speed of their destruction, etc.

The main objective of the Kyoto Protocol has been set by the developed countries to achieve 5% below the level of greenhouse gases of 1990 by the year 2012.

Similarly, a provision has been made in the Montreal Protocol to restrict the production of ozone-depleting substances. It should be noted that in the conference held in Montreal in the year 1998, it was targeted to suppress the production of 12 such substances in the world, which along with promoting pollution, were also harming the environment.

United Nations Environment Program (UNEP)

UNEP is a primary international environmental agency whose primary objective is not only to review in terms of environmental conditions but also to promote environmental cooperation.

This institution plays an important role in the importance of environment and exchange of information related to it at the international level. In 1997, German Chancellor Helmut Kohl spoke at the United Nations General Assembly about amending the provisions of the United Nations Charter. At the same time, the issue of including sustainable development under the main objectives of the United Nations was also raised. Apart from this, the strategy of establishing global cohesion in this context by environmental organizations was considered as the center point of UNEP.

Integration of global economy with environmental protection

In the context of environmental protection and the coordinated development of the global economy, it is very important that international trade activities are sustainable. In this context, many laws and regulations on environmental issues have been developed by the World Bank and the World Trade Organization. Several strategies have been adopted by the World Bank on environmental issues. Also, all its members have been updated in this context.

International financial institutions place great emphasis on reducing the impact of human activities on the environment.

The United Nations Overseas Private Investment Corporation has made its view that under the Montreal Protocol, every activity associated with the production of banned chemical substances that erode the ozone layer and other international environmental programs is subject to any hindrance towards development of activities. Financial assistance of any kind will not be done.

At present, the market of environmental investment is flourishing on a huge scale. The Kyoto Protocol has been demanding from developed nations to reduce the production of industrial greenhouse gases. Which is also helpful in increasing the demand for technology that promotes renewable energy sources. This type of technology is also known as the greenhouse technique. Developing nations are also looking towards these developed nations with hopeful eyes for this technology.

Many environmental-related non-governmental organizations raise international environmental issues, especially in the context of developed nations. Along with this, they also make them realize their responsibilities. Apart from this, international financial organizations have established their offices where the civic community can not only share their issues and problems related to the environment but also raise their voice.
